College hockey roundup: Quinnipiac tops Union

Trailing No. 15 Union, 2-0, entering the third period, it looked like Quinnipiac’s NCAA-leading unbeaten streak was about to be snapped.

Mike Dalhuisen, Jordan Samuels-Thomas, and Kellen Jones scored in a span of seven minutes in the third period, giving Quinnipiac a 3-2 victory over the Dutchmen in Hamden, Conn., Saturday night.

The Bobcats (17-3-3, 11-0-1 ECAC) are now unbeaten in 16 straight games (14-0-2).

Union (10-7-4, 4-3-3) got power-play goals from Wayne Simpson and Greg Coburn in the first period, and Troy Grosenick made 29 saves.

UMass-Lowell 6, Vermont 3 — In Burlington, Vt., Scott Wilson had a goal and two assists, and the No. 20 River Hawks (11-6-1, 5-6-1 Hockey East) beat the Catamounts (6-11-4, 3-8-4).

Riley Wetmore, Joseph Pendenza, and Chad Ruhwedel all had a goal and an assist for Lowell.

Providence 2, UMass 0 — Ross Mauermann and Tim Schaller scored to propel the host Friars (9-8-3, 7-4-2 Hockey East) past the Minutemen (7-11-2, 4-8-1).

Merrimack 6, Maine 0 — Mike Collins potted two goals, and Sam Marotta had 30 saves as the Warriors (8-9-4, 6-5-1) thumped the visiting Black Bears (5-13-3, 1-8-3).

Dartmouth 3, Harvard 2 — Jesse Beamish’s goal with 8½ minutes remaining gave the No. 12 Big Green a win over the Crimson in Hanover, N.H.

 Ryan Bullock added two assists for Dartmouth (9-5-2, 5-3-1 ECAC). Jimmy Vesey and Petr Placek scored for Harvard (5-8-1, 3-6-0).

Yale 3, Clarkson 1 — Kenny Agostino netted a goal and an assist, and Jeff Malcolm made 33 saves to lift the No. 14 Bulldogs (9-4-3, 5-3-1 ECAC) over the host Golden Knights (4-12-5, 3-5-1).

St. Lawrence 3, Brown 2 — Chris Martin scored both of his goals in the second period as the Saints (9-10-2, 2-5-2 ECAC) beat the visting Bears (5-7-4, 1-4-4).

Women’s hockey

BC 7, Vermont 2 — Alex Carpenter (two goals, two assists) ran her point streak to 16 games in the third-ranked Eagles’ rout of the Catamounts (6-12-2, 4-4-2 Hockey East) at Conte Forum.

 BC (15-3-2, 10-2-1) has won a program-record 11 straight games, and is unbeaten in its last 16 games.

Harvard 4, Quinnipiac 0 — Jillian Dempsey and Miye D’Oench both tallied a goal and an assist as the second-ranked Crimson (13-1-1, 11-0-0 ECAC) shut out the Bobcats (12-9-2, 8-5-1) at Bright Hockey Center.

BU 5, Maine 2 — The No. 6 Terriers (13-3-3, 8-2-1 Hockey East) cruised to a victory over the Black Bears (3-16-1, 1-9-0) in Orono, Maine, behind Jenelle Kohanchuk’s two goals.

Cornell 4, Northeastern 2 — The No. 9 Huskies (11-8-2) couldn’t hang on against the No. 4 Big Red (11-3-0), who ended a 42-day layoff with a come-from-behind victory at Matthews Arena. Kendall Coyne and Rachel Llanes scored for NU.
