The NHL has issued a formal apology to fans via a full-page ad in Thursday’s Boston Globe.
A simple letter on a mostly white page (there’s a silhouette of a crowded arena at the bottom) promises the league will make it up to fans. See the full-page ad here in PDF form.

There is no fan that loves the NHL and the Boston Bruins more than I do. The way to make me and I'm sure millions of other hockey fans happy is to fire Gary Bettman TODAY! This little troll has damaged hockey singlehandidly and came within hours of doing just that. Get rid of Bettman and alot of fans will come back to the best game there is. Go Bruins!
