The Islanders suspended veteran defenseman Lubomir Visnovsky Friday for failing to report for the start of the season. Visnovsky has been playing in Russia’s Kontinental Hockey League but is required to return with the lockout over. The KHL is complying with an agreement with the NHL and won’t let him play since the lockout has ended. The Islanders also claimed former BU defenseman Brian Strait off waivers from Pittsburgh . . . The Canucks re-signed defenseman Alex Edler to a six-year deal. He was set to become an unrestricted free agent in the summer . . . The Blues signed defenseman Wade Redden to a one-year, $800,000 deal. He was waived this week by the Rangers, who bought out the final two years of his contract . . . The Panthers signed right wing Alex Kovalev, 39, to a one-year contract . . . The Capitals recalled ex-BU defenseman Tom Poti, who hasn’t played in the NHL in two years because of injuries, from Hershey of the AHL . . .
