Boys’ basketball players of the week

Ronnie Slager, Matignon — It was only a matter of time before Slager scored his 1,000th career point. On Monday, he was held to 16 against Austin Prep, leaving him 4 shy of the milestone. But on Friday, Slager dropped 26 in a loss to St. Clement, giving him reason to be proud despite the final score.

Darien Fernandez, Wareham — Fernandez led the Vikings with 24 points in an 63-55 win over Dighton-Rehoboth on Tuesday. He went back to work on Friday, scoring 21 points in a win over Fairhaven, becoming the Vikings’ all-time leading scorer (1,225 points).

Danny Connors, Danvers — The No. 2 Falcons are flying high as they remained undefeated with a 70-51 win over Revere on Friday. Connors helped Danvers secure the victory with 32 points and 12 rebounds.


Michael Gelineau, Waltham — Gelineau’s 21 points led the way for the Hawks, who dropped previously undefeated St. John’s Prep on Sunday. The forward also finished with 24 points in Friday’s 74-43 win over Weston.

Matt Costello, Bishop Fenwick — Costello recorded a double-double in Monday’s win over Peabody, finishing with 18 points, 11 rebounds, and 3 blocks. On Wednesday, the junior chipped in 12 points to lift the Crusaders to a 56-47 win over Austin Prep.
