The announcement would always come around the seventh inning, when a Red Sox publicist would tell the media in attendance that Fenway Park was again sold out, a streak that stands at 793 games and dates to May 15, 2003.
But in the wake of the joyless 2012 season, that streak is in jeopardy.

Are you kidding me? The streak is a sham. They need to get over it.
Hardcore fans? This is just a result of the pinkhats who decided to get rid of their status-symbol. The owners marketed to THEM and shunned the hardcore. I go to about 10 games/year. Not once do I see the hardcore in those seats anymore. Maybe the owners will get it.
My 12 year old grandson predicted this 3 years ago when I asked him if he wanted me to get Red Sox tickets during the family's annual visit to Boston. His answer: "No I don't watch them anymore. Just a bunch of guys who get paid too much for not caring about the game." From the mouths of babes....
The streak likely died at the end of 2011. The ownership has been falsely propping it up with fake ticket sales and other gimmicks. There's no way the 2012 season was actually sold out, they were terrible.

After buying 2 sets of Soxpax last year and finding out that both sets had a seat behind a pole, in addition to all the losses we saw, I decided not to waste my money again this year.

Wait about a month into the season when this team is beating expectations. Ticket sales will go right back up again. I agree with all the stuff above about the fake sell out streak and marketing to the pink hats and the lousy seats. On the other hand, after being relentlessly critical of the way they've built teams in the last 4 or 5 and how they played in the game in season, they made some very nice baseball moves this winter and Farrell is talking about playing the game the right way (faster and with more energy). This team well may win nothing but they won't be an embarassment like last year and the year before and the games well could take under half a day to play and watch. There are a bunch more nice baseball players who care about the team and playing the game right than there were last year around this time on the Sox.

Mr. Kennedy will likely see individual game sales increase when he permits fans to choose specific seats. Letting the system choose "best available" tends to result in obstructed views.
The Ministry of Truth on Yawkey way will apprise us of the facts after Big Brother has determined them.
