Lyle Overbay joins Red Sox

The Red Sox have agreed to terms with veteran first baseman Lyle Overbay on a one-year minor league deal, and he will have a chance to make the team as a lefthanded complement to Mike Napoli, a team official confirmed Thursday.

Overbay, who recently turned 36, has struggled the past couple of years, but he hit 20 homers in 2010 for Arizona. He ended last season with the Braves after being released by the Diamondbacks in August.

Oh boy, I can hardly wait for the season to start.  What an improved team this year, with Jonny Gomes, Shane Victorino, Ryan Sweeney,Lyle Overbay, Stephen Drew.

For years, I have looked forward to the day that pitchers and catchers report to Spring training.  Now, can anyone tell mewhen the Patriots open OTAs?
