Brad Marchand won’t play vs. Canadiens

MONTREAL -- Brad Marchand will not play Wednesday night when the Bruins meet the Canadiens because of an undisclosed injury.

Marchand was injured in the second period of Saturday’s 1-0 win over Toronto. He practiced yesterday at the Bell Centre, and is considered day-to-day.

“We’re going to keep our fingers crossed that he’s in next game,” coach Claude Julien said. “He’s that close. It’s a matter of days here. It’s not as serious as most injuries, except that we’re being extra cautious early on in the season.”

Gregory Campbell will skate in Marchand’s spot on the second line. The newly recalled Ryan Spooner will make his NHL debut. Spooner will center Lane MacDermid and Jamie Tardif.

“I’m a little nervous now,” Spooner said. “But I think it’s mostly just excitement. I’ve been waiting a long time for this. I’m extremely happy I get a chance to play.”
