Keep the reporters out of the dressing room, drink beer after a game?
It is a great idea, especially if it is a hot summer day.
I wish you well this year Red Sox oh illustrious team that plays in New England.
Keep reporters at bay while you work out the kinks.
Good article Dan! I've said before, mark my words, they're going to be a lot better than people think. You can smell the attitude in VT! Just empty the guns before you try to clean them?
Two days in and Buchholz has a hammie. Someone didn't read the script.
Why all this boring baseball talk in the middle of winter. Who cares? For that matter, who cares in the summer!
Ah Baseball is back! Every Spring hope comes out like flowers in the field. Every player is ready to have his best year. The fans are ever optimistic. Here is America's game. Even when the home team loses, we can have fun watching and cheering on "our guys". so "Take me out to the ball game.." I'm ready and come good or bad the Red Sox are the Boston Immortals who help us remember that life has to be fun and that at least for the time of the game-all is well. Oh yes, tomorrow is another day and maybe this is the "wait 'till next year" the will make us forget the horrors of the past season. See you at the Park!

I don't remember which writers called the Sox the best team ever two years ago. Hopefully not Dan. Of course, this piece does not predict how they will do this year. Wisely done.
The way they can win back the fans is to win games and project a little gratitude for getting paid in the millions for playing an awesomely fun game. Pretty simple, actually.
But they got off track already, with this marketing campaign for Lackey. Greatest teammate ever, heroically shouldering a great burden under great pain and suffering? Hogwash! Lackey, and all the others, need to play well and win. Only then will the fans will be loving it again. With the pitching rotation in place, it may be a long, long time before the fans are loving it, or even tolerating it!
As I recall, "The Best Team Evah!," was the blaring tabloid headline of the "Tabloid.". Yes, that other paper. Don't know if I can say its name here. I cringed when I read it, not because of the particular newspaper but just that old fashioned sense of its creating a bravado jinx, which, of course, it did.
Oh, please. The professional athlete of today, for the most part, doesn't care even a little bit about the lowly slobs and slobettes in the stands. That is all public relations speak. What they care about is getting paid top dollar. As Big Papi knows all to well (Wah.."they're disrespecting me by not paying me more than I'm worth"..Wah). We have Jon Lester telling the world that he is an "Ace". Really???? So, what happned last year there ace? Buckholtz hurt already..(maybe he could have worked out a bit more to avoid a hammy). Lackey?!?!? What??? Come on, by the second month he will have melted back into the recalcitrant, angry man he was all last season. Or, he'll be hurt and out for a month or two. Napoli??? He'll be injured by the third week of the season. Oh, they have made a few good moves. But not enough to turn the disaster of last season around. I doubt they even make the playoffs this year either. It is obvious this management team met it's primary goal of winning a World Series, not once but twice. So, now it's time to look elsewhere for those adrenlin kicks. Don't expect too much from this team and you won't be dissapointed. And don't believe Dan's marketing hpye. He is just another media hound looking for as many paydays as he can find.
They do have what looks to be a decent bullpen. And that's good, because with this starting rotation..they are going to need it badly.
bad rotation + excellent bullpen = bad rotation and injured bullpen
i have not tasted alcohol since 1998 but these are supposed to be mature adults. beer/alcohol should be made available and they should be able to consume responsibly. if not made available, people will drink anyway because 1) certain people have drinking problems and those people tend to find a way and 2) certain people will drink just to disrespect authority. there will always be a bad apple or two in every bushel
