A seismic shakeup at sports radio station WEEI has brought to an end the tenure of longtime host Glenn Ordway, who was fired by parent company Entercom after a decline in ratings brought on in part by the ascent of a competitor.
Ordway, who spent 27 years at WEEI, will be replaced on its afternoon drive program by Mike Salk, a Boston native who has cohosted a program on 710 ESPN in Seattle since 2009. Ordway’s final show will be Friday.

Not often that I'm shocked, but I'm SHOCKED!
Wow
Driving home the other day, I was saying to myself that Ordway and Holley was a really good pairing, making for a great show.
This news doesn't make me sad. Never been an Ordway fan. Hated his old show and only listen to him now because I really like Holley. But to get Holley you've had to tolerate Ordway. Dont' know the new guy but I hope he's good and he almost certainly can't be more obnoxious than Ordway is at times.
I am totally in accord with that. MH was always mismatched with Ordway who just doesn't know how to stop being annoying. This is a great relief because 98.5 is no bargain either.
Loud applause and great relief for this well overdue move.
Ordway made a lot of enemies in town so there won't be a bunch of tears shed at this news.
Holley's great.
Ordway has lived a charmed life to last this long. IMHO, he certainly wasn't deserving of it. As much as I like Holly, I switched long ago to 98.5, where I was just content in not having to hear "you're missing my point" every 30 seconds during my commute home.
This isn't enough for me to turn back to 'EEI, but if the two morning bozos are cut loose soon, different story.
Now if they would just get rid of those two idiots Dennis and Callahan. But 98.5 is much better anyhow. Stopped listening to the egotistical know it alls at EEI long ago.
Agree with above about EEI, and the political overtones, particularly on the AM show and even on the Big Show made it hard to listen to (honestly, don't care about the hosts' politics, that is for a different forum/station)...unfortunately out here in the western part of Mass we only get the EEI affillitate.
Glen - call Phil over at WGBH - they'll hire anyone ... at the right price.
Next. . . Head down the hall and deliver the bad news to D&C. They make Ordway seem like a day at the park. Only a major league housecleaning will make sports talk competitive again.
Glenn survived a long time. He might just be starting his own show on 98.5. Wouldnt that be ironic?
IMHO, They got rid of the wrong guy. D&C should join the GOP mouthpiece: FOX where they can air their political nonsense until they're red in the face (heh). I could take Ordway or leave him, but he was a very good, knowledgeable sports guy around here for a long time. Well before Felger and Mazz. I guess I'm part of the demographic EEI and 98.5 don't care about anymore. Gotta stick to those marketing statistics like glue. Its "all young, all the time or hit the highway". Maybe I"ll hit the highway. And by the way; Felger and Mazz can be very annoying too. This is entertainment folks, just like the network news now....not much in the way of real news, just the fluff and occasional "real", "hard" news and weather. All from pretty, talking heads. This is what passes for information mediation these days. Just show me the $$$ never mind the content.
Agree totally with Southshore Rick. They should have gotten rid of D&C. I wonder if Scott Brown has any room for them in his truck as he makes his way down to the Fox Network. That's where the D&C morons belong. To hear Callahan on the radio, you'd never know that he once wrote for Sports Illustrated.
Won't miss his loud mouth and his CONSTANT interruptions. He would never allow a caller to finish a statement.
I always found Glenn to be a solid Boston guy who did a great job most of the time. I will fault him for letting that dope Shepherd hang around way too long as that was the primary driver that sent me (and perhaps others) to 98.5. Good luck moving forward Glenn.
Can't count the times I heard some line, got out of car, come back 30 minutes later, and hear the same thing, again & again. Please put an end to the morning torture next.
I always thought that Ordway was the most knowledgeable sports guy in town, personality aside. (But who could be more annoying than Felger?) But I stopped listening to 'EEI a few years ago when they went all football all the time.
“You’re going to hear nothing negative about anybody here” has to be the most ironic thing Ordway has ever said. The entire premise of The Big Show, 'EEI, sports media in general, seems to be "build 'em up, then tear them down" when it comes to players, management, everyone else in the sports-entertainment arena. It can be fun in the short term, gets pretty tiring after a while. I do have fond memories of listening to Glenn on the radio with Johnny during the Celtic reigns of the 80s. But, that was a long time ago, Ordway is 62, the sports landscape has changed, time for new blood. Management at The Boston Globe should follow suit.
'EEI has been a second-rate station for a long time. Ordway was obnoxious in his condescending treatment of callers, although the afternoon guys on the other station (Felger and Mazz) aren't much better on that count. Even after this, 'EEI is still very weak in the morning and evening. D&C and Mike Adams are all unlistenable. Thank heaven for satellite radio (although I admittedly don't listen to much sports talk there).
Ordway was still making $500,000 and the new guy will be making $100,000. That really says it all.
The funny thing is that these stations are trying to capture a demografic that doesn't listen to over the air radio. They get their entertainment from other things.
Now if only eei will be prescient enough to jettison Disturbed and Confused in the mornig, I might go back to WEEI and support their sponsors. The last laugh is saved for the Hawaiian Homeboy who will undoutably outlast the always wrong, never in doubt obnoxious right wing nuts.
I really like Glen and am sad to see him go. I do NOT like Felger and Mazz - at all. The two people they need to get rid of on eei are on in the morning: 6 - 10. Buh-bye.
Sports Talk Radio in Boston has become unlistenable. It's all mean spirited dribble. WEEI needs to clean house
while it still has any listeners.
