Wrestling schedule condensed

The MIAA announced Thursday that the state wrestling tournament schedule has been condensed, with the sectionals, divisional rounds, and the All-State meet all taking place in one week. It allows Massachusetts wrestlers to compete in the New England championships scheduled March 1-2. The decision was made by the MIAA Wrestling Committee.

Eastern Massachusetts sectional tournaments will be held Saturday. The All-State finals will be held between Feb. 22-24. But in between the two tournaments, the MIAA will hold the Division 1, 2, and 3 state tournaments Feb. 19-20. Individual sites and times are still being determined, according to a release from the MIAA.

The changes are the result of last weekend’s snowstorm that forced postponement of the sectional round to this weekend. The initial decision was to move the three tournaments ahead one weekend. But that meant the All-State meet would have been held the same weekend as the New Englands.

In a separate release, the MIAA said there will be no public sale of tickets at the girls’ Division 1 and 2 swimming championships at Springfield College. The MIAA is allocating a number of complimentary tickets to schools that have students competing in the meet. Tickets for the boys’ meet at Harvard will be on sale at the site.
