Patriots cornerback Alfonzo Dennard was found guilty Wednesday morning of felony assault on a police officer, stemming from an incident last year in Lincoln, Neb.
The 23-year-old Dennard, who just completed his rookie season, also was found guilty of misdemeanor resisting arrest, but acquitted on the charge of misdemeanor assault against another man.

Cut him.
Keep him. It was his first offense. If he take responsibility as a man and has profusely apologized to the student and, particularly, the police officer, I hope he is given a light sentence so he can return to his job and not take up space in federal prison, which we get to pay for. Good luck to you, Alfonzo; I hope you have learned your lesson.
Give him a break Shalise...he'll be fine for next year! Pete.
Assaulted a police officer? Straight to Jail. Do not Pass Go, Do not play in the NFL.
First offense, take it easy on him??? Dennard didn't steal a loaf of bread, he assaulted a police officer. Should spend some time in jail to contemplate his poor behavior.....
Fine him, don't jail him. It's not like he's likely to ever be a menace to society again. I read elsewhere that he had no criminal record prior to this incident. It looks like some kind of drunken stooper and totally foolish act that college age kids will often do. It's not like he assaulted the cop with intent to kill or injure him. If he were just some kid on the street, there's almost no way he'd face jail time under the same circumstances. The NFL and the Patriots can decide the proper punishment as it relates to his pro career. Ray Lewis killed someone for cryin out loud and is now a shoo in hall of famer and a legend.
I've been in fights before and stuff happens. If he approached a cop and punched him it's a lot different than swinging at someone who's trying to restrain you when you're in the middle of a fight. Usually you don't have time to process who it is. Considering it was his first offense, if it looks like his intent wasn't to punch the cop they'll go easy on him. If he had time to process who was restraining him and punched the cop anyway that's different.
