Now the Patriots must tag Aqib Talib

INDIANAPOLIS — Drafting Alfonzo Dennard was always a risk/reward proposition for the Patriots. He was a potential lockdown cornerback saddled with the possibility of becoming a locked-up one.

He made strides toward developing into the former last season, starting nine games — including the playoffs — corralling three interceptions, one of which he returned for a touchdown, and displaying NFL-starter ability.

Logically argued Chris.  I will be surprised if they don't tag Talib.  Keep up the good work.

Belichick is a Hall of Fame coach but his handling of the Patriots defense over the past 5 years or so causes him to lose his mantle of "defensive genius". He's a genius at scheming and coaching guys up but, his inability to grasp the importance of an effective pass rush and good defensive backs in a quarterback league was a serious misstep that has cost them dearly. As Borges once said, "it's not X's and O's, it's Jimmys and Joes". Belichick is a stubborn guy so it will be interesting to see if he's willing to change his thinking on this and pay for defensive talent.

I wouldn't jump to franchise him just yet. nnamdi asomugha is going to be released by the eagles and is a better option at between five and seven million a year.
