Sports log: Bobby Valentine Sacred Heart athletic director

Former Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine, a Stamford, Conn., native, is expected to be named athletic director at Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, Conn., the Connecticut Post reported Thursday. Sacred Heart AD John Cook is retiring July 1 and Valentine is expected to be named Tuesday. “An intriguing opportunity has been presented to me and it’s something I really feel I can enjoy doing and I feel could be mutually beneficial,” Valentine told the Connecticut Post . . . Jerry Sandusky’s attorneys have notified his trial judge that he wants a state appeals court to overturn his convictions for molesting boys. Attorneys for the former Penn State assistant football coach filed a pair of appeal notices that indicate Sandusky wants the state Superior Court to take up his convictions on 45 counts of child sexual abuse. The notices were filed in the Centre County Courthouse in Bellefonte, Pa.
