New NHL delivers same old scoring woes

The irrepressible Mike Milbury believes the game he loves needs more scoring. He talked about it last week with 98.5 The Sports Hub’s Michael Felger, and he remained in “give me more’’ mode when I reached him at the start of the weekend.

“I’m just tired of the soccer scores,” said the ex-Bruin and current NBC analyst during a phone interview. “Sure, a 1-0 game can be great. The game can be played a number of ways and still be great, and that’s the beauty of hockey. But overall, give me the 5-4 game or even 4-3 game. It’s about entertainment, right?’’

Do not blow any more whisltes ... icing should not be called during a power play ... if you want to create a similar effect, let the team on the power play chase the puck and be able to skate it unchallenged to either center ice or the attacking zone. This would allow uncontested clearing passes from the PP team's Goalie.... creating a much better flow then a whistle.

Leave the game alone, haven't we had enough tweaks over the past decade including the ridiculous shootout? I will agree to one thing in the article, the goalie equipment needs to be toned down in size, not to sacrifice safety. Some of these guys cover up 3/4 of the net with all the bulk. Gloves, pads and chest protectors are way too oversized. Correcting that issue would help the scoring without changing the game.
