Pedro Martinez has once again become a fixture at Red Sox spring training, now in his role as a special adviser to the team.
Now more than 8 years removed from playing for the Red Sox, Martinez is still a joyful personality who enjoys joking around.
Martinez has jumped into his role as a tutor, working with young Red Sox pitchers such as Daniel Bard.
But because of his big personality, it's hard for Martinez to simply remain in the background during spring training.
Martinez has entertained reporters at times during spring training, as he once did during his seven-year stretch with the team.
Martinez is the latest former Red Sox great, along with Hall of Famer Jim Rice, right, to join the club as a spring instructor.
Martinez has a large task: Helping to improve a Red Sox pitching staff that contributed to a last-place finish in 2012.
Coaching assistant Ino Guerrero, left, is one of the few faces still in uniform now who was with the team when Martinez last pitched in 2004.
Martinez, 42, has ruled out a potential return to pitching again.
