FORT MYERS, Fla. — Jose Iglesias was home in Miami getting ready to celebrate the holidays with his family when he learned the Red Sox had signed Stephen Drew to play shortstop.
There would be no competition for a position Iglesias thought he would be given a chance to earn. Drew’s $9.5 million deal essentially guaranteed his playing time.

If he is that good at defense, I don't see why we don't give him a shot. Alex Gonzalez in 2004 provided us with such great defense, that winning games usually meant we had to score less runs. If Iglesias saves a bunch of runs with his glove, who cares if he bats .230. If nobody is even close to his defense, we have to give him a look. Sometimes great defense can be good offense.
