When it’s about NBA history, it always goes back to the Boston Celtics, the Los Angeles Lakers, and . . . Wilt Chamberlain.
The Miami Heat Monday night won their 23d consecutive game, recovering from a 13-point deficit in the final eight minutes in a spectacular 105-103 showcase triumph on the parquet floor. This was blood-and-thunder basketball for the full 48, easily the most entertaining game of the Causeway season. Subbing for Kevin Garnett, Jeff Green lit up the New Garden for 43 points, but it was not enough to keep the Heat from extending their winning streak.

but I can't stand Lebron and I don't recall Wilt being a cheat. Lebron has enough talent that he shouldn't be either, but the game has changed and not always for the good.
What, not calling Jeff Green "Ghandi" today, Shaughnessy?
If the goal is to win, then the player that most facilitated that is the greatest player ever. Russell almost always came out best because he did what he had to to win. A lot of Chamberlains's "skill" was locked up in the fact that he was so much bigger than anybody else with any coordination. But he became almost a non-entity with five fouls because it was so important to him that he had never fouled out of a game. Best scorer, yes; best player, no.
Noticing that title again, can't refrain from commenting again. First, again, Chamberlain dominated because he was bigger, stronger, and more coordinated than the other centers of the day (with only one real partial exception). He was a lousy foul shooter, got most of his points in the paint where he was like a guy teasing his little brother by holding the ball above his reach. Lebron is a much more talented all around player, as have been many others.
The other ridiculous statement was that if he scored 30 one game, he'd have to score 70 to maintain his average. How 'bout if he scored 55 the next five games? What would that average out to? Does that mean he had to score a goose egg the day after he hit 100? I can sometimes, even often, enjoy your undefended conclusions and your obvious biases against certain people, because you're just as entitled to your stupid opinion as anybody else, but bad math is simply bad math.
Congrats to the Heat on their BIG WIN. An undermanned Boston team, but far, and the Heat just barely eked it out. Heat haters (that's me) can hope this is the Heat peaking too soon.
