BU extends Parker’s tenure at least one more game

BOSTON — Danny O’Regan scored twice in the third period as Boston University rattled off five straight goals in a 6-3 win over rival Boston College Friday, clinching a berth in the Hockey East title game and extending coach Jack Parker’s 40-year tenure at least one more game.

The Terriers (23-10-4) will face UMass-Lowell for the conference title Saturday. A victory would secure a spot in the NCAA tournament, which BU has won three times under Parker. The coach is retiring at the end of the season, which appeared to be eminent when the Eagles (22-11-4) took a 2-0 lead on Quinn Smith’s goal with 11:14 left in the second.
