BREAKDOWN: Eduardo Escobar was 2 for 4 with a double and three RBIs for the Twins. The Sox did not get their first hit until the sixth inning when Jacoby Ellsbury had a one-out single. They finished with only six hits.

THUMBS UP: Pedro Ciriaco, who was slowed by back spasms, started at shortstop and played into the eighth inning. He was 1 for 3 with a triple. The Sox wanted to make sure he was set to start the season. Manager John Farrell said none of the players expected to be on the Opening Day roster have health issues.

THUMBS DOWN: For all the defensive drills Sox pitchers have done, it’s hard to believe that Junichi Tazawa would forget to cover first base on a ground ball to the right side. But he did just that in the fifth inning and the Sox were unable to turn a double play as a result. Tazawa, however, did get the next batter to ground into a double play.

MEDICAL REPORT: David Ortiz (right heel) and Stephen Drew (concussion) are increasing the intensity of their on-field workouts, but neither seems ready for a game. “It’s getting there, but I’m not sure about a game,” said Drew, who still has symptoms on occasion. “Just waiting for that.”

AROUND THE BASES: Jackie Bradley Jr., who has not been told whether he has made the team, joked that he hopes he can change numbers if he does. He was given 74 for spring training. “Even 70 would be better,” he said . . . Ronald Bermudez, a minor league call-up for six games, was 5 for 7 with four RBIs. The 24-year-old outfielder from Venezuela was with Double-A Portland and Triple-A Pawtucket last season and hit .254.

NEXT GAME: The Sox close out spring training Saturday at 1:35 against the Twins at JetBlue Park. Felix Doubront will get the start, opposing Mike Pelfrey. The game will be on NESN Plus and WEEI.
