Girls’ indoor track: 2013 All-Scholastics

Meet the standout performers who earned All-Scholastic honors for their work this season.

Athletes of the Year

Catarina Rocha

Division 1: Peabody

Rocha hasn’t lost a race since cross-country season, when she finished second at nationals. She took home top prize in the mile at every meet: Coaches Elite (4:50.3), Division 1 (4:52.34), and All States (4:49.14), which was a personal best and meet record. (Note: Rocha was also an All-Scholastic Athlete of the Year in the fall.)

Lucy Alexander

Lincoln-Sudbury, junior

Alexander set a personal best at the Coaches Elite meet, clearing 5 feet-8 inches to take home the top spot. She cleared 5-6 three times, winning the Dual County League title and the Division 1 title, and coming in second at All-States.

Bryanna Allison

Lowell, senior

Allison took home top prize at all the major meets: Coaches Elite (2:55.1), Division 1 (2:57.90), and All-States (2:53.32). She posted the 4th fasted time in the country and broke the Red Raiders school record. She will continue running at Providence College.

Erin Dietz

Bedford, sophomore

The cross-country runner uses her distance strength to leave competitors in the dust. She won the Coaches Elite meet well ahead of the pack at 10:51.77. In the Division 4 meet, she took home the title with a 10:41.13 before winning All-States with in 10:38.12.

Amanda Henson

Barnstable, junior

Henson recorded the top time in Massachusetts this season (7.14 seconds). She ran a 7.19 to win the All-State title, before coming in second at New Englands (7.16). At the New Balance National meet, she finished in 7th in the 60 meter Emerging Elite (7.84).

Melissa Isidor

New Bedford, senior

Isidor placed first at the Big 3 meet, winning in 8.86. Her star turn happened at the Division 1 meet, where she won in 8.48 and also took home top honors in the long jump (17 feet-6 inches). Isidor capped her season with a second place finish at All-States (8.35) and third place finish at New Englands (8.22).

Maya Jarostchuk

Acton-Boxborough, senior

The Colonials captain opened the season with a third place finish (41.2 seconds) at the Coaches Elite meet. She followed up with second place in Division 1 (40.69) and at All-States (40.45). Jorastchuk will continue running at Dartmouth College.

Julie McConville

Hingham, senior

The three time All-American shattered the previous Division 3 meet record, winning in 10:38.46. At the New Balance National meet, McConville placed second, finishing in 10:17.15, and set New England indoor record in the 5k, finishing third (16:40). She will continue her track career at Dartmouth College.

Amy Piccolo

Ursuline, sophomore

Piccolo had a prolific winter season. She opened the major meet season winning the 300 (40.53) and 600 (1:34.06) at the Coaches Elite. She then won the 300 and 600 at the Division 4 meet, helping the Bears win the team title. She finished off the season with a win in the 600 at All-States and a second place showing at New Englands.

Jessica Scott

Hopkinton, junior

Scott set a personal-best at the New England meet, finishing third with a jump of 18 feet-1 inch. She came in second at All-States with jump og 17-8.5. The honor roll student also holds the school record in the 55 and 60 meter dashes.

Michaela Smith

Newton North, junior

Smith broke a 16-year-old school record by two feet with a throw of 41 feet, 4 inches. Her throw of 40-0.5 at the Division 1 meet helped lead the Tigers to the team title. She took second place at All-States (38-10) and New Englands (41-3.25).

Relays

4 x 200

Cambridge: Sydney Fisher, Kenlee Presume, Dora Cronin, Anchella Bernard

Bernard, Cronin, Fisher, and Presume spent a lot of time on the podium. They opened the major meet season with a second place finish at the Division 1 Coaches Relays. The Falcons then won the Coaches Elite meet in 1:46.3 and the Division 1 state meet in 1:47.60, helping them clinch a share of the team title. The group won All-States in a season best 1:44.98. The quartet then grabbed fourth place at New Englands (1:45.6) before running in the Emerging Elite section at New Balance Nationals finishing in 16th place.

Lexington: Melissa Solomon, Camila Isern, Robin Gross and Olivia Manickas-Hill

The quartet of Solomon (Fr.), Isern (Sr.), Manickas-Hill (So.), and Gross (Sr.) only finished second once this season and that was at the Division 1 Coaches Relays. From that point on, they owned first place. They finished in 4:04.01 at the Coaches Elite. Their win at the Division 1 state meet in 3:58.51 helped the Minutewomen secure a share of the team title. The group then posted a 3:56.27 at All-States and went on to win at New Englands in 3:56.12, setting a meet and school record.

Whitman-Hanson: Abby Baker, Gianna Cacciatore, Sam Coletti and Rachel Baker

The team of sisters Abby and Rachael Baker (Srs.), Cacciatore (Sr.), and Coletti (Fr.) were consistent all season. They opened the season with a blistering time of 9:28.87, winning the Division 2 Coaches Relays. At the Division 2 state meet, they were one of three squads to break the previous meet record, finishing second in 9:41.72. The three seniors and freshman followed up with a second place finish at All-States and fourth at New Englands. At the New Balance Nationals, the Panthers ran a 9:40.63, a time good enough for 12th.

Coaches of the Year

Scott Cody

Division 1: Cambridge

The season was full of titles for Cody. He led his alma mater (class of 1988) to the Greater Boston League title, and punctuated the season with a share of the Division 1 state title with Lexington.

Edward Ryan

Division 2: Marshfield

In 22 years of coaching, Ryan has a combined 282-100 record leading cross-country and indoor/outdoor track teams. He led his alma mater to the Atlantic Coast League title with a perfect 8-0 record, and the Rams were runners-up at the Division 2 Coaches Relays and the Division 2 state meet.

David Jewett

Division 3: Hingham

After compiling a 30-0 record over five seasons of indoor and outdoor track, the upcoming spring season will be the last for Jewett. In his final winter season, Jewett guided the Harborwomen to a 6-0 record in the Patriot League, the Division 3 Coaches Relay championship, and the Division 3 state title.

Thomas Shaw

Division 4: Ursuline

After being named the 2012 outdoor track coach of the year, Ryan earned the indoor honors after a successful season he credits to his hard working athletes. He coached the Bears to the Division 4 state title. He also coaches cross-country and outdoor track.
