BU to end wrestling team

Boston University announced Monday it will cease to sponsor a varsity wrestling team after the 2013-14 season.

The announcement comes on the heels of three Terriers participating in the NCAA tournament last month. The school is giving the team one more season so the 11 juniors on the roster can finish out their collegiate careers.

Athletic director Mike Lynch said in a release it was “a very difficult decision to make,” but is best for the school long-term, and that the program will not be brought back, even if money is raised.

The team has been coached the last 32 years by Carl Adams, who has amassed 301 wins.
