NHL trade roundup: Blue Jackets acquire Gaborik

The Blue Jackets have rarely been in a playoff race, so they treated Wednesday’s trade deadline as a way to gear up, as three-time All-Star Marian Gaborik was the marquee player acquired in four deals by Columbus.

Gaborik and minor league defensemen Steven Delisle and Blake Partlett were sent from the Rangers for center Derick Brassard, right wing Derek Dorsett, defenseman John Moore, and a sixth-round pick.

‘‘You can see,’’ Gaborik said, ‘‘this team is going in the right direction.’’

Columbus also dealt Steve Mason to Philadelphia for Michael Leighton and a third-round pick in 2015 in an exchange of backup goaltenders, and traded for Calgary forward Blake Comeau, as well. The Flames received a fifth-round selection in 2013.

In a minor-league deal, the Jackets acquired goaltender Patrick Killeen from the Penguins for future considerations.

Gaborik, 31, has 666 points (333 goals) in 757 games and could replace Rick Nash, the Blue Jackets’ career points leader, who was dealt to the Rangers last summer.

Bishop goes to Tampa

The Senators traded goalie Ben Bishop to the Lightning for Calder Trophy candidate Cory Conacher and a fourth-round pick. The 23-year-old Conacher has nine goals and 15 assists, immediately making him Ottawa’s leading goal scorer and point producer. Bishop posted an 8-5 record, 2.45 GAA, and .922 save percentage for Ottawa . . . The Sabres traded captain and sixth-time 20-goal scorer Jason Pominville and a fourth-round pick in 2014 to the Wild for prospects Johan Larsson and Matt Hackett, plus a first-round pick in 2013 and a second-round pick in 2014 . . . The Penguins acquired Jussi Jokinen from the Hurricanes for a conditional draft pick, a move necessitated by the broken jaw sustained by Sidney Crosby . . . The Capitals acquired right wing Martin Erat and minor leaguer Michael Latta from the Predators for 2012 first-round pick Filip Forsberg . . . The Sharks traded a third-round pick to the Coyotes for forward Raffi Torres and a sixth- or seventh-rounder to the Predators for defenseman Scott Hannan . . . The Leafs added Colorado defenseman Ryan O’Byrne for a fourth-round pick.
