According to a major league source, Red Sox righthander Clay Buchholz will be watched closely by umpires, the Major League Baseball office, and by every network carrying Monday night’s game against the Minnesota Twins at Fenway Park.
After last Wednesday’s start in Toronto, Buchholz was accused of doctoring the ball by two Blue Jays announcers. This will be his first start since those allegations.
In that 10-1 win over the Blue Jays, Buchholz went seven innings, giving up no runs and just two hits and striking out eight. He improved to 6-0 with the win and lowered his ERA to 1.01.
MLB reviews every game, and it’s evident that Buchholz’s outing vs. the Blue Jays was reviewed as well. Considering that no action was taken against Buchholz in terms of a fine or suspension, it appears that those in the MLB office who watch these matters found no conclusive evidence of wrongdoing.Nick Cafardo can be reached at email@example.com.
