Ailing Bruins miss practice before opener

Bruins defensemen Dennis Seidenberg, Andrew Ference, and Wade Redden did not participate in the team’s morning practice on Thusday. Their absences indicate that none will be available for Game 1 against the Rangers later in the day.

“They weren’t on the ice this morning, so it doesn’t look good,” coach Claude Julien said.


Matt Bartkowski, Dougie Hamilton, and Torey Krug will likely be asked to fill in for the three veteran defensemen. In the morning workout, Hamilton was paired with Zdeno Chara. Bartkowski was on the second pairing with Johnny Boychuk. Krug was with Adam McQuaid.

Brad Marchand left the workout early. Toward the end of the session, Marchand left the ice doubled over in apparent pain. There was no contact involved.

But Julien said Marchand is fine and would play in the game.
