Scoring hasn’t been an issue for the BC High lacrosse team this year, especially not for Pat Cronin. On Wednesday, in a Division 1 preliminary round matchup, the junior netted four goals to help lift the Eagles to an 11-6 victory over visiting Peabody.
For Cronin, it was a matter of being in the right place at the right time. But for BC High, it was about being the more physical team. With a pair of goals from freshman A.J. Kucinski, the Eagles propelled themselves to a 4-1 lead at the half.
Coach Tim Kelly acknowledged he was confident with the three-goal advantage, yet knew his team had more scoring to do. Right on cue, an efficient BC High squad poured in seven goals in 12 minutes, going up, 11-2, after three.
Speeding through defenders after the faceoff, Cronin scored his first goal just eight seconds into the third. He found the back of the net again less than a minute later.
Senior Ian Yanulis, who is committed to Duke, buried his second goal of the game with 7:58 left in the quarter. Cronin followed with a snipe from about 10 yards a minute later to put BC High up, 8-1.
“[Ian] was a little bit smarter on his shots today,” said Kelly. “Cronin has just been solid the whole season — he’s our leading goal scorer and continues with that.”
Peabody’s Nick Ouellette stopped the Eagles’ scoring barrage in the third when he netted his first of three. BC High’s Patrick Kearney responded with a pair of goals and Cronin added another to close out the quarter.
