Billerica races to 4 x 800 title at Outdoor Nationals

After finishing second at the MIAA All-State track meet two weeks ago in the 4 x 800, Billerica won the event in the emerging elite division Friday at the New Balance Outdoor Nationals in Greensboro, N.C. Brendan Knickle, Alex Finestone, Peter Garmon, and Scott Arsenault won in 7:54.05. The emerging elite division is for individuals and relay teams who do not make the championship qualifying standards.

Newton North’s Mike Schlichting, Jared Freedman, Nick King, and Gabe Montague were second in 7:55.96.

In the 4 x 200 emerging elite, the Lexington team of Andrew Johnston, Ricardo Job-Reese, Michael Hunter, and David Johnston finished seventh in 1:30.90. Pembroke’s Jacob Moran was third in the emerging elite javelin with a throw of 168-5. The Plymouth North team of Claire O’Donnell, Micaela Fraccalossi, Jacklyn Sullivan, and Nicole Borofski placed fifth in the emerging elite 1,600 sprint medley in 4:18.31. North Andover’s boys team of Henry Wu, Joseph Mosby, Ross Hardy, and Jacob Johns was sixth in the 1,600 in 3:36.41.

The Weston girls were fifth in the 4 x 200 emerging elite with Brianna Schwartz, Katie Marlow Benedick, Kayla Lawrence, and Emma Marlow-Benedick finishing in 1:44.35. Beverly’s 4 x 800 girls team of Mary Cate Flaherty, Nicole Demars, Keely Higgins, and Madison Shropshire took fourth in emerging elite in 9:37.64.

In the finals of the 4 x 100 the Notre Dame (Hingham) team of Isabella DiMare, Amanda Reilly, Shauna Owen, and Gabby Kenyon was seventh in 49.17.
