If the Spurs don’t dethrone the Heat in the Finals, Tracy McGrady, on his seventh NBA team, will be without a ring as his career winds down. There are 16 players with more All-Star selections than McGrady’s seven that haven’t won an NBA Finals, but only three played for one franchise their whole career:

Elgin Baylor

All Star invitations: 11, 1959-1965, 1967-1970

Career: 27.4 ppg, 13.5 rpg, 4.6 apg

The Baylor-era Minneapolis/Los Angeles Lakers lost eight NBA Finals, seven to the Celtics, including a 2-point Game 7 loss at home in 1969 after holding a 3-2 advantage.

All Star invitations: 10, 1989-1997, 2000

Career: 13.1 ppg, 10.5 apg, 2.2 spg

Stockon’s Jazz made the Finals twice, in 1997 and 1998, losing to Michael Jordan’s Chicago Bulls in six games on both occasions. In the 1998 Finals, Stockton’s 3-pointer at the end missed after Jordan hit his last shot as a Bull.

Yao Ming

All Star invitations: 8, 2003-2009, 2011

Career: 19 ppg, 9.2 rpg

The only time the Rockets ever made it out of the first round with Yao was in 2008-09, but a hairline fracture suffered in Game 3 of the Conference semifinals ended his season and effectively his career.

NOTE: Baylor was given a ring after the 1971-72 Lakers won, a season in which he retired after nine games.
