Meet the standout performers who earned All-Scholastic honors for their work this season.

Athlete of the Year

Amanda Henson

Barnstable

A junior, Henson is the only girl in the history of the All-State meet to have won both the 100 and 200. She broke the 100 record (12.05) and 200 (24.42) at the All-State meet and was undefeated. She also won both events at the Division 1 meet.

All-Scholastics

Bryanna Allison

Lowell, senior

The Providence College-bound senior won the mile titles at the All-State, Division 1, and Merrimack Valley Conference championships. She had a personal best and school record time of 4:54.53. Allison will leave holding six school records with the relay team and five individual.

Grace Ashworth

Lowell, senior

Ashworth was part of one of the most successful years in Lowell track history. She won the Division 1 pole vault title and finished second at the All-State meet, each time clearing 11-0. The MVC All-Conference athlete will attend Ohio State.

Madison Braz

Plymouth South, senior

A two-year captain, Braz holds the school record for shot put and discus. She won the Division 1 title with a distance of 126-6 and the All-State title at 124. She is a two-time Atlantic Coast League All-Star and weill attend St. Michael’s.

Hannah Chapman

Andover, sophomore

Just a sophomore, Chapman won the Division 1 triple jump title with a distance of 37-2, a school record at Andover and the longest jump this season in EMass. Chapman also does long jump and finished sixth at the All-State meet at 16-11.

Ellen DiPietro

Marshfield, junior

DiPietro is a four-time Division 2 state champion. She won the Atlantic Coast League, Division 2 and the All-State championship in 2013, clearing 5-6 at the state meets. She was the 2013 New Balance Indoor Nationals emerging elite champion and also an honor-roll student.

Mackenzie Gray

Governor’s Academy, sophomore

The Governor Academy sophomore won the the ISTA and NEPSTA title in both long jump and triple jump, setting new personal records in the process. She also took second in the ISTA and NEPSTA 100 hurdles and 4x400 relays.

Kendall Ham

Governor’s Academy, junior

The school record holder in the 100, 200, and 4x100 relay, Ham took home four medals at New Englands this year. She took first in the 100 and 200 at the ISL championships. With a year to go, she’s already committed to Bucknell to play soccer.

Sierra Irvin

Hingham, sophomore

Only a sophomore, Irvin was 2013 All-State champion in 400 meters with a time of 56.82 seconds and also won the Division 3 title. She was second at the New England meet. An honor roll student, she also runs cross-country and winter track.

Catarina Rocha

Peabody, senior

Cross-country runner of the year, indoor track runner of the year, and outdoor state champion in the 2-mile, Rocha had a senior year few will ever match. This spring she won the 2-mile at the Division 1 and All-State meets, clocking a 10:34.25 at states.

Alexandra Saccone

Old Rochester, senior

Saccone was Division 4 champion in 400 and 100-meter hurdles. At the All-State meet she won the 400 hurdles title in 1:02.50 and was second in the 100 hurdles (14.78). She also holds all school records in hurdle events. Saccone will attend Boston University.

Karina Shepard

Dracut, junior

Running the 800, Shepard won the Division 2 and All-State titles, clocking a 2:09.29 at states. She was undefeated in the regular season and finished seventh in the 800 at Nationals. At Andover Invitational, she set meet records in the mile and 4x800.

Michaela Smith

Newton North, junior

Smith took first place in the Division 1 meet with a distance of 41-2, then finished second at the All-State meet at 41-7.5. Along the way she broke school records for indoor and outdoor shot put. She’s also an honor roll student.

Bionca St. Fleur

Melrose, senior

The Temple University-bound senior placed first at All-State meet in long jump at 18-3.75, a personal best. She also won the Middlesex League title in the 200 and league all-star honors. The Melrose captain was also an honor roll student.

Sima Suon

Lowell, senior

Suon was the Division 1 champion in the javelin with a personal best and school record throw of 125-6. She was the top EMass finisher at the state meet with a fourth-place throw of 122-6. She will attend UMass-Lowell.

Relays

4 x 100

Wellesley

The Raiders started by winning the Division 2 relays, breaking the school record with a time of 50.00 seconds. They improved their time in subsequent meets, running a 49.80 at the coaches invitational and a 49.57 at the Division 2 meet. At All-States they earned first place in a blistering time of 49.13. Rachel Walsh opened the races, followed by Emily Ryan and Leigh Barnhill, and Ally Isley anchored them.

4 x 400

Mansfield

Led by seniors Julia Jones and Ashley Bjorkman, along with junior Maddie Oldow and sophomore Mikaila Amerantes, the Hornets had an impressive run through the spring season in the 4x400 relay. The quartet bested the competition at All-States, in the Division 2 meet, and in the Hockomock League meet. Amerantes also holds the school record in the long jump and 800, while Jones finished first at the Hockomock meet in the 400 hurdles.

4 x 800

Newton North

Lead by senior Meghan Bellerose,juniors Evie Heffernan, Elizabeth Koch, and Maeve Greeley, and sophomore Sonya Jampel, the Tigers took home first place in the 4x800 relay at All-States and came in second at the Division 1 meet. Greeley, Bellerose, and Heffernan all compete in cross country for the Tigers while Jampel competed at the cross-country skiing nationals in Alaska. Koch was also a member of the soccer team.

Coaches of the Year

Tim Patterson

Division 1: Lowell

In his 10th year of coaching, Patterson led his team to a 4-1 record in the Merrimack Valley Conference, second place in the Division 1 championships and second at All-States. A Lowell High graduate, Patterson credited a ‘‘tremendous senior group.’’

Rick Kates

Division 2: Notre Dame (Hingham)

After earning Coach of the Year honors last spring, Kates and Notre Dame of Hingham were even better this year, winning the Division 2 title for the first time ever. A member of the MSTCA Hall of Fame, Kates also teaches physics.

David Jewett

Division 3: Hingham

If you’re going to step down, follow the lead of Dave Jewett. The Hingham coach led the Harbormen to titles at the Division 3 Relays, Division 3, and All-State meets. This comes after a winter in which Hingham won the relays and Division 3 meet.

Sotirios Pintzopoulos

Division 4: North Reading

A North Reading alum, Pintzopoulos and the Hornets finished second at the Division 4 meet. In his seventh year at North Reading, he is 38-29 overall after going 4-4 in the competitive Cape Ann League. He received same honor in 2007.
