NESN, which broadcasts Red Sox games, announced today that Dennis Eckersley, a studio analyst, will fill in for Remy during this weekend’s series with the Yankees and next week’s games against the Giants and Dodgers.

NESN did not say who would join play-by-play announcer Don Orsillo after Eckersley’s stint or when Remy would return.

Red Sox manager John Farrell shared similar sentiments this afternoon.

“Our thoughts, prayers and sympathies are with the Martell family,” Gordon Edes of reported Farrell saying. “Other than that, that’s all I’m going to say.’’
