MLS roundup: Dynamo score 5 in beating Chivas

Oscar Boniek Garcia scored his first two goals of the season and Giles Barnes added two more as host Houston (12-10-7) solidified its hold on fourth place in the Eastern Conference with a 5-1 win against Chivas USA on Saturday night.

Eric Avila scored for Chivas (6-16-8), which is winless in 13 straight road games (0-11-2).

The Dynamo recorded their season high in goals and jumped 2 points behind third-place Montreal in the standings. Chivas USA was officially eliminated last weekend.

Whitecaps 3, Impact 0 — Camilo Sanvezzo scored two second-half goals to help visiting Vancouver keep its playoff hopes alive. Kenny Miller scored from the penalty spot in the 23d minute as the Whitecaps (11-10-8) picked up only their second victory in 10 games.

Sporting 2, Toronto FC 1 — C.J. Sapong scored twice as Sporting Kansas City (14-9-6) extended host Toronto FC’s winless streak to eight games.

Crew 3, Fire 0 — Dominic Oduro gave Columbus the early lead with his team-best 11th goal, Federico Higuain converted a penalty kick, and the host Crew (11-14-5) cruised over Chicago (11-12-6).

Earthquakes 2, Real Salt Lake 1 — Steven Lenhart scored two goals in a four-minute span of the first half to lead visiting San Jose to victory.

Galaxy 1, Sounders 1 — Juninho scored his first goal of the season on a free kick in first-half stoppage time as host Los Angeles (13-10-6) tied Seattle (15-8-5).
