School roundup: ND girls’ soccer still perfect

Notre Dame of Hingham defeated host Cohasset, 5-0, in a girls’ soccer match Tuesday afternoon behind a hat trick from senior Gabby Kenyon. Kenyon has a team-leading 12 goals for the 7-0 Cougars.

“She’s definitely extremely gifted on the field,” coach Liz Lima said of her St. John’s University-bound forward. “She’s just dangerous up top.”

Notre Dame has scored 38 goals while only giving up two. It was the fifth shutout for junior Maggie Elliott, a Plymouth native. While it’s still early in the season, Lima knows this squad’s potential.

“This is a group of committed girls and as strong of a team as I’ve ever coached,” said Lima, who has coached Notre Dame for eight seasons.

Kenyon came right out of the gate and scored two goals in the first 13 minutes. Olivia Thomas, a Duxbury native, followed with a goal in the 26th minute.

With a 3-0 lead at halftime, Kenyon, sophomore Hannah Volpe, and senior Allison Zacheo kept the offense rolling, each scoring a goal. Zacheo also recorded an assist.

Lima noted that while the offense has been outstanding throughout the season, their defense has been equally impressive. To go along with Elliott’s shutout, Elissa Deukeshire also locked down Cohasset at the center back position.

“I feel pretty good about the [rest of the] season,” Lima said. “This is one of my most sound groups I’ve had but of course sometimes in soccer, you need the ball to bounce the right way.”

Whitman-Hanson 1, Hingham 0 — Elise McDonough earned her first varsity shutout, making eight saves for the Panthers. Stephanie Warn, Hayley Wells, Lily Higgins, and Kelsey Gilbert played strong defensive games in front of McDonough. Alexis Fruzzetti netted the lone goal midway through the first half on a cross from freshman Taylor Robertson.
