Red Sox clinch best record in AL

BALTIMORE — Seattle defeated Oakland, 7-5. The Red Sox have clinched the best record in the American League.

That means the wild-card winner will play at Fenway Park on Friday in Game 1 of the Division Series. The Sox also have home-field advantage for the entire postseason.

The Cleveland Indians moved into sole possession of the AL wild-card lead, beating the Minnesota Twins, 5-1, Saturday.

The Indians’ playoff scenario is simple: win Sunday, and they are in. They have a one-game lead over Tampa Bay and Texas.
