The Los Angeles Dodgers will open the NL division series in Atlanta on Thursday without center fielder Matt Kemp and possibly Andre Ethier. Kemp will miss the entire postseason because of swelling in a bone in his sprained left ankle. Ethier’s status won’t be known until the team works out on Tuesday. He has been sidelined with shin splints. The Dodgers won the NL West mostly without Kemp, who has been plagued by injuries this season . . . Righthander Mat Latos has a bone chip causing pain in his elbow and will be unavailable to pitch for the Cincinnati Reds in their wild-card playoff game Tuesday in Pittsburgh . . . Joe Girardi did not say whether he will return as Yankees manager but he said it won’t take him long to decide his future. “It’s not my personality to drag things out,’’ said Girardi, who replaced Joe Torre after the 2007 season . . . Chicago Cubs manager Dale Sveum is scheduled to meet with team president Theo Epstein on Monday to discuss his future. Sveum has a 127-197 record in his two seasons at the helm. He has one year left on a three-year deal . . . Chris Johnson said he has apologized to Braves first base coach Terry Pendleton for hitting him with his thrown helmet following Atlanta’s 5-4 loss to the Phillies Saturday night . . . Former Mets catcher Mike Piazza was inducted into the team’s Hall of Fame . . . Michael Hill was promoted to president of baseball operations for the Marlins. Another team executive, Dan Jennings, replaced Hill as general manager.
