Carey Price made 35 saves for Montreal. After a scoreless first period, Couture scored a power-play goal at 6:20 of the second. Joe Thornton sent a precise pass to Couture and he scored from close range for his fifth goal of the year.

Couture doubled the lead at 4:09 of the third when Patrick Marleau’s dump-in bounced off the glass and landed on Couture’s stick in front of the net.

Maple Leafs 4, Penguins 1 Dave Bolland scored two goals and James Reimer had 37 saves as host Toronto beat Pittsburgh.

Making his first start since Oct. 17, when he left with a head injury after 32 seconds, Reimer was stellar after giving up a power-play goal to Kris Letang at 6:52 of the first.

Nazem Kadri, centering the first line in place of the injured Tyler Bozak, and Phil Kessel also scored for the Maple Leafs.

Flyers 5, Islanders 2 — Vinny Lecavalier scored three goals in Philadelphia’s biggest offensive outburst of the season, and Steve Mason made 26 saves to lift the Flyers in Uniondale, N.Y.

The Flyers hadn’t scored more than two goals in their first nine games. One more and they would have become the first NHL team to have a season-opening run of 10 games without three goals since the 1940 New York Americans.

Wild 5, Blackhawks 3 — Jason Pominville scored two goals and Niklas Backstrom made 33 saves as Minnesota defeated host Chicago.

Zach Parise, Kyle Brodziak, and Justin Fontaine scored for the Wild. Bryan Bickell scored for the fourth straight game for Chicago, and Patrick Kane added his team-best sixth goal.

Rangers 3, Red Wings 2 — Derick Brassard’s breakaway goal with 12.9 seconds left in overtime led New York over host Detroit. Benoit Pouliot had a goal and an assist for the Rangers in the final game of their season-opening, nine-game road trip. Cam Talbot stopped 32 shots while filling in for injured Henrik Lundqvist.

Blues 6, Predators 1 — Alexander Steen had two goals to lead visiting St. Louis over Nashville. T.J. Oshie, Jaden Schwartz, Derek Roy and Alex Pietrangelo also scored for the Blues. Nick Spaling scored for Nashville.

Lightning 3, Sabres 2 — Ondrej Palat and Martin St. Louis scored third-period goals as host Tampa Bay rallied over Buffalo. Tyler Johnson had the other Lightning goal as they completed a seven-game homestand with a 5-2 record.

Jets 2, Stars 1 — Andrew Ladd scored the only goal in a shootout and Ondrej Pavelec made 35 saves as Winnipeg beat host Dallas. The Jets played past regulation for the third straight game and fourth in five.

Coyotes 5, Oilers 4 — Oliver Ekman-Larsson scored on a power play in the third period after Keith Yandle made a spectacular play to keep the puck in the zone, lifting Phoenix over Edmonton in Glendale, Ariz.

Flames 5, Capitals 2 — Mike Cammalleri scored two goals and added an assist to lead host Calgary over Washington.
