Patriots’ Sebastian Vollmer has leg surgery

Right tackle Sebastian Vollmer underwent surgery Monday to repair a broken bone in his lower right leg, a league source told the Globe. Vollmer was injured in the second quarter of Sunday’s game when he was rolled on from behind by Miami’s Randy Starks.

Field-level microphones picked up Vollmer’s screams of pain, and he pounded the turf as he lay on his stomach after the play. Medical staff rolled Vollmer onto his back and immediately placed his leg in an air cast, using a pump to inflate it and create some pressure around the affected area.

Before he was carted off the field, numerous teammates approached the veteran to offer support.
