The Bruins paid tribute to their former goalie Tim Thomas with a video presentation when Thomas was in town with the Florida Panthers on Thursday.
During a TV timeout at 10:39 of the third period Thursday night, a video montage showed some of Thomas’s best stops – his stick save on Tampa Bay’s Steve Downie was a highlight – and a glimpse of the goalie lifting the Stanley Cup in 2011.
He later told the Miami Herald, “Great to be back at the Garden, great to be back in Boston. I was hoping for that kind of reaction from the fans.”
After the video, the scoreboard showed Thomas, who sat out the game while rehabbing a groin injury, sitting in the press box.
The TD Garden crowd cheered, along with Thomas’s former teammates and coaching staff. Thomas stood to acknowledge the ovation.
