Sidney Crosby has accomplished a lot by age 26, winning a Hart Trophy and the Stanley Cup among other things. He appeared in his 500th game earlier this month, and three points in that game gave him 706 for his career. That’s the sixth-highest total through 500 games in NHL history, according to Elias. Though only two of the top five lasted another 500 games, they all maintained strong a strong scoring touch for the rest of their careers.

A look at those players, listed by player; points per game, first 500 games (total points); points per game, rest of career (total points, games)

Wayne Gretzky; 2.37 (1,186); 1.69 (1,671 in 987 games)
