Franklin Morales’ three-season stint with the Red Sox appears to be over.
The Red Sox agreed to a trade to send Morales and minor league reliever Chris Martin to the Colorado Rockies for infielder Jonathan Herrera, MLB.com reported.
Herrera adds depth to the Red Sox’ infield, and likely projects as a reserve. He appeared in 81 games last season for Colorado and his .292 with a .364 OBP and a .701 OPS.
Morales, a lefthanded reliever, had been with the Red Sox since 2011. He appeared in 20 games last season after battling injuries.
The trade sends Morales back to the team that the Red Sox originally acquired him from in 2011, when the Rockies sent Morales to Boston.
