BC, Notre Dame may play at Fenway

A Boston College-Notre Dame “Holy War” football game at Fenway Park?

According to a source familiar with the negotiations, the Fenway Sports Group is in serious negotiations with the schools to make the event come to fruition after a few years of talks.

Red Sox chief operating officer Sam Kennedy would not comment Thursday on the possibility of an agreement being reached soon.

Fenway has hosted many events, including concerts, hockey games, and Patriots games, but never a major college football game with local and national appeal.

BC and Notre Dame are next slated to face each other in 2015. There had been rumors of that game being played in Ireland, but the focus is now Fenway.

The programs’ all-time series dates to 1975, with Notre Dame leading, 13-9. BC has lost the last four matchups since 2009, after winning the previous six.
