Sunday Football Notes

More than a footnote

In his eighth season, Stephen Gostkowski is the 53d player in history to score 1,000 career points. As the kicker for the potent Patriots, he’s finished with fewer than 100 points in a season just once — missing eight games in 2010 because of injury — and his other seasons have been so strong that he’s averaging the most points per year among the 1,000-point scorers. The players with an average greater than 100:

Stephen Gostkowski

Averaged 126.1 points per season

1,009 total points over eight seasons; ranks 52d

Mike Vanderjagt

Averaged 118.6 points
