Not unheard of for sub-.500 team to make NBA playoffs

While the NBA bemoans the prospect of one or more sub-.500 teams making the Eastern Conference playoffs, things have surely improved in the last 60 years. In the 1952-53 season, the Baltimore Bullets dragged their 16-54 record into the postseason, earning the distinction of worst team to do so. A look at their season:

Nov. 8 1952 – Last game coached by Chick Reiser, who was fired after an 0-3 start to the season.

Jan. 1 – Last road win in franchise history win, 83-81, at Washington.

Jan. 11 - Worst loss – 44-points (131-87 at Boston).

Feb. 1-15 - Longest losing streak – 12 games

Feb. 16 – Trades leading scorer Fred Scolari (14.2 points per game) to Fort Wayne Pistons.

March 11 – 113-107 triple-overtime loss vs. New York Knicks.

Postseason – Swept by New York Knicks, 2-0, by a combined score of 170-143.
