Brandon Spikes did not miss a game in the regular season.

Linebacker Brandon Spikes, who was the Patriots’ second-leading tackler despite dealing with a knee injury for much of the season, has been placed on injured reserve, ending his season.

Spikes played in all 16 games, starting 11. According to team statistics, he finished the regular season with 134 tackles, a career high, and also had one interception, in Week 5 against the Bengals.

He becomes the fourth defensive starter to be placed on IR, joining defensive tackles Vince Wilfork and Tommy Kelly, and linebacker Jerod Mayo. On offense, right tackle Sebastian Vollmer and tight end Rob Gronkowski also have been lost to season-ending injuries.

Despite playing hurt for much of the season, Spikes didn’t miss a game for the first time in his four-year career.

The Globe reported late in the season that Spikes had a ligament tear, and that the injury would require surgery once the season was over. Spikes’s season is now over.
