Schools roundup: Andover wins rivalry showdown

David Giribaldi has been a difference maker for the No. 7 Andover Golden Warriors all season.

After the No. 11 North Andover Scarlet Knights earned their first lead at the foul line with 6.1 seconds left, the junior guard took an inbound pass the length of the court and drained an 8-foot runner, plus the foul, to tie the score at 42.

Giribaldi converted the free throw, the Golden Warriors dodged a close call at the buzzer by North Andover’s Brett Daley, and escaped their crosstown rivals’ gymnasium with a 43-42 victory Friday at North Andover.

“I basically was thinking, ‘put this ball inside the hoop,’ ” Giribaldi said. “I just ran the length of the court and . . . I don’t know. It went in. It went better than planned.”

Catholic Memorial 87, BC High 64 — Sophomore guard Brandon Twitty drained seven 3-pointers and finished with 31 points to lead the No. 3 Knights (10-1).
