College hockey roundup: BC slips past Penn State

The Boston College men have been on a blistering streak of late, and that continued against Penn State on Saturday night.

Kevin Hayes scored twice, including the winner with 15:32 left in the game, to lift the No. 2 Eagles to a 3-2 victory over the Nittany Lions (4-15-1) in University Park, Pa.

BC (18-4-3) is unbeaten in its last 11 games (10-0-1) and has been riding the triumvirate of Hayes, Johnny Gaudreau, and Bill Arnold.

Gaudreau had a goal and an assist, stretching his nation-leading point streak to 20 games, and Arnold assisted on all three goals. Thatcher Demko made 33 saves to earn the win.

UMass-Lowell 6, Providence 1 — Christian Folin and Joseph Pendenza each had two goals and an assist, powering the No. 8 River Hawks (16-7-2, 6-4-1 Hockey East) to a rout of the seventh-ranked Friars (15-6-5, 7-5-1) at Tsongas Center.

Yale 6, Brown 0 — Kenny Agostino and Tommy Fallen had two goals each, Jesse Root recorded five assists, and the No. 10 Bulldogs (10-5-4, 5-4-3 ECAC) beat the visiting Bears (8-8-3, 5-6-1).

Notre Dame 3, Northeastern 0 — Mario Lucia, Peter Schneider, and Vince Hinostroza each had a goal and an assist as the No. 15 Fighting Irish (15-9-1, 4-6-1 Hockey East) won in South Bend, Ind.

Clay Witt registered 30 saves for the 11th-ranked Huskies (15-8-3, 8-5-1).

Maine 4, UNH 2 — Devin Shore had a goal and three assists as the No. 20 Black Bears (12-9-3, 6-4-2 Hockey East) scored three times in the third to top the visiting Wildcats (14-13-1, 6-6-0).

Merrimack 3, UMass 2 — In the third period, Chris LeBlanc scored the tying goal and assisted on John Gustafsson’s winner as the host Warriors (7-13-3, 2-7-2 Hockey East) slipped past the Minutemen.

Michael Pereira scored two goals in the second period for Massachusetts (7-16-3, 3-8-2).

Bentley 5, Holy Cross 3 — Andrew Gladiuk’s tally at 5:14 of the third was the winner for the visiting Falcons (13-8-3, 11-3-3 Atlantic Hockey).

Jake Youso netted his first goal of the season for the Crusaders (6-16-2, 5-10-2).

UConn 2, AIC 1 — Jordan Sims and Jacob Poe scored 43 seconds apart in the first to help the host Huskies (12-7-4, 10-4-3 Atlantic Hockey) beat the Yellow Jackets (6-17-1, 5-11-1).

Women

Harvard 3, Rensselaer 1 — Hillary Crowe potted a pair of goals and the No. 5 Crimson (16-2-2, 2-2-1) bested the visiting Engineers (10-13-2, 6-7-1).

BC 5, New Hampshire 3 — Taylor Wasylk scored twice as the No. 7 Eagles (17-4-3, 12-1-1 Hockey East) beat the Wildcats (9-13-2, 4-6-2) at Conte Forum.

Vermont 5, BU 1 — The 10th-ranked Terriers (16-8-1, 9-5-0 Hockey East) lost for the second straight day in Burlington, Vt., as the Catamounts (11-12-4, 7-6-1) scored the final four goals.
