Jerryd Bayless set to return for Celtics

NEW YORK -- After missing four games with a sprained left big toe, Celtics guard Jerryd Bayless will return to action Tuesday night when the Celtics face the New York Knicks here at Madison Square Garden.

“He’s been out 10 days, so I’m sure his wind won’t be great, but I think he’s excited to play,” Celtics coach Brad Stevens said after morning shootaround. “We need his scoring. With him and Avery [Bradley] out, those are two guys that can go on scoring flurries for you. It’s good to have Jerryd back.”

Bayless will come off the bench against the Knicks, but the Celtics will still be without starting guard Bradley, who will miss his fourth straight game with a sprained right ankle.

Stevens also said that starting point guard Rajon Rondo will play 25-30 minutes against the Knicks.

Rondo, who is easing his way back into the rotation after missing nearly a year following a knee injury, is on a minutes restriction, but the figure has been steadily increasing, and the most he’ll play against the Knicks is 30 minutes, as he did Sunday against the Brooklyn Nets.

Stevens said the next question is whether Rondo, who has played in five games, will play in the second game of a back-to-back set, which would be Wednesday, when the Celtics play the Philadelphia 76ers at TD Garden.
