Gomes: “I’m looking to see who’s burying me today. You know Paul Hagen [2013 winner of the Baseball Writers’ Association of America’s J.G. Taylor Spink Award for meritorious contributions to baseball writing]? We’re related. He’s a Hall of Famer. He went in all by himself. He’s my wife’s uncle.
