Semyon Varlamov stopped 37 shots for his 100th NHL win and Brad Malone scored his first goal of the season, helping the Colorado Avalanche hold off the Chicago Blackhawks, 3-2, Wednesday night in Denver.

Matt Duchene and Ryan O’Reilly added goals as the Avalanche took four of five from the Blackhawks in the season series. They also moved a point ahead of the defending Stanley Cup champions for second place in the Central Division.

Varlamov became the fourth Russian-born goaltender to record 100 wins, joining Evgeni Nabokov (347), Nikolai Khabibulin (333), and Ilya Bryzgalov (213).

Canucks 3, Jets 2 — Chris Higgins had the only goal in the shootout and visiting Vancouver rebounded from a third-period collapse in their last game to beat Winnipeg.

Higgins flipped the puck by Ondrej Pavelec after the goalie went down. The Canucks, 2-4-1 in their last seven games, allowed seven goals in the third period in a 7-4 home loss to the Islanders on Monday night.

Flames 7, Ducks 2 — Mikael Backlund had two goals and an assist and Calgary stunned Anaheim with a four-goal first period and breezed to the home win.
