BREAKDOWN: The Red Sox took a 2-0 lead in the sixth inning on an opposite-field double by A.J. Pierzynski. Jonny Gomes (walk) and Will Middlebrooks (single) scored. The Phillies scored twice in the eighth inning. Tony Gwynn Jr. homered off Brayan Villarreal before a bad-hop single, an outfield error, and a bloop single led to another run.

THUMBS UP: Jon Lester threw 5 shutout innings, giving up four hits with one walk and five strikeouts . . . Lefty Jose Mijares finished the game with two solid innings to preserve the tie.

THUMBS DOWN: Gomes (0 for 3) is hitting .184 in spring training with one extra-base hit . . . Jackie Bradley Jr. didn’t help himself in the center-field competition by going 0 for 4 with a strikeout.

MEDICAL REPORT: Shane Victorino will leave the friendly confines of Fort Myers for the first time when he joins the team in Kissimmee for the game against the Braves on Saturday. It will be his seventh game since returning from thumb and groin issues.

AROUND THE BASES: The Sox are 1-5-1 in their last seven games . . . Rich Hill has appeared in three games since arriving in camp March 6 and has thrown 2 scoreless innings. He is likely to start the season with Triple A Pawtucket but has put himself in position to get a quick call-up once a need arises . . . The Sox and Phillies will not meet in the regular season for the first time since 2007.

NEXT GAME: The Sox play the Braves in Kissimmee at 1:05 p.m. on Saturday. John Lackey is scheduled to face lefty Alex Wood. The game will be on NESN and WEEI.
