TV/radio: NESN, MLB Network / WEEI
Red Sox vs. Estrada: Gomes 0-2, Ortiz 1-2, Pedroia 0-1, Pierzynski 0-2.
Brewers vs. Peavy: Ramirez 5-22, Reynolds 3-20, Overbay 1-9, Weeks 3-6, Braun 1-5, Gomez 0-3.
Stat of the Day: Xander Bogaerts reached base safely in the first three games of the season. The last younger Red Sox player to do that was 19-year-old Bobby Doerr in 1937.
Hot hitters: Bogaerts is 5 for 9 with three walks . . . Pedroia is 7 of 15 with a double. He has a six-game hitting steak dating back to last season . . . Ortiz is 5 of 13 with a home run and three RBIs.
In relief: The Red Sox bullpen in 7⅔ innings this season: 6 hits, 0 runs, 1 walk, 8 strikeouts.
Key player: Peavy returned to Boston ahead of the team Thursday so he could get a full night of rest. His teammates got in well after midnight, so how Peavy handles the early innings could be the key to the game. This is one case where a team truly needs the starter to set the tone.
Brawny Braun: Ryan Braun is playing on the road for the first time since returning from his 65-game suspension for performance-enhancing drugs. He is 8 for 25 in six games at Fenway Park with three home runs.
Notes: The Brewers were last at Fenway in 2011. The Sox are 113-109 against Milwaukee . . . The Sox were 14-6 in interleague games last season . . . Peavy is 3-3 with a 2.48 ERA in nine career starts against Milwaukee, the last one coming on Sept. 6, 2008. Peavy was 4-1, 4.04 in 10 starts for the Sox last season . . . Estrada faced the Red Sox on June 17, 2011, and took the loss, giving up three runs on four hits over three innings.
