NEW YORK — Major League Baseball does not plan to discipline Yankees righthander Michael Pineda for pitching with what appeared to be a foreign substance on his hand against the Red Sox on Thursday night. But officials said they plan to speak to the Yankees about the situation.
“The umpires did not observe an application of a foreign substance during the game and the issue was not raised by the Red Sox,” spokesman Pat Courtney told the Globe on Friday. “Given those circumstances, there are no plans to issue a suspension. But we intend to talk to the Yankees regarding what occurred.”
